Anybody have a degree for substance abuse counseling??

i need honest opinions from EXPERIENCED people. i am thining i want substance abuse to be my major this august. but im not sure how interesting it is, what the pay goes for, if its worth it basically, are there a lot of jobs out there for people who do this as a major? thanks for the help.

college major is not required to become a drug and alcohol counsiler. Classes and field experience are required though. But, majoring in addiction, phycology, and biochemistry would be recomended to better suit your dealings in the field. Becoming a counsiler means you must make a comittment to help other persons in need. The pay is not that high aorund $40,000 depending on a degree as well, but if you love your job it shouldnt matter. There are tons of jobs for abuse counsilers for outpatient and inpatient places. I recommend the major in drug abuse, only if you are truely committed because the job is extremely commitment based. First hand experience. Good Luck !

do a job search re this. Check on line too. Or check with a college etc for info. keep up the good work!! we need guys like you.
