What kind of education do i need if I want to become a Substance Abuse Counselor?

What kind of education do i need if I want to become a Substance Abuse Counselor?

It depends on where you want to work, and what state you will be working in. Your best bet is to call the rehab centers in your area and ask what they require. In texas there is a 11 month program, and that is all texas requires. BUT you wont be able to use that certificate ANY WHERE else BUT texas, so I dont think that route is very good. I am getting a bachelor in Psychology and then taking substance abuse seminars / training, and I am going to work with teens who have a substance abuse. The good thing is that I will be able to go a lot of places with a Bach. in Psych.. I looked into a lot of programs, and I think this is the best bet. Be REALLY CAREFUL with all these online degree scams. MAKE SURE A COLLEGE IS ACCREDDITED BEFORE YOU PAY FOR OR TAKE ANY CLASSES. ALSO MAKE SURE THEY ARE ACCREDDITED IN ALL THE STATES, NOT JUST THE ONE IT IS OFFERED IN. that way you will be able to live anywhere, and still make a living. :) If you need any more help, contact me :)
