C. What role does denial play in substance abuse?

It allows (more comfortably) the addiction to continue..

Sometimes people who are abusing think they can quit whenever they want to.
They may use recreationally and justify it as not being bad for them.
They may binge and then not use for a long time, only to binge again.
They blame circumstances and other people on their problem.

I think they say denial is a part of substance abuse because the abuser denies they have a problem.?

Most of the time, when someone is abusing something and someone tries to help them or tells them they are addicted and need help, the abuser goes into denial; the user will often say they are not abusing the drug or, in the case of perscriptions, say that they are only taking the recommended dosage when they are clearly taking too much.
