How would a cognitive psychologist explain substance abuse? |
For example, alcoholism and drug taking? In a way. Changes happen within the brain after taking a drug and some hormones and substances are released. Some people have some genes that make them get addicted to a drug more easily. I think it's a mixture of these 2 factors, though the genes are the one's who make our body do the things it does. There really isn't anything cognitive about substance abuse; it's all about the impulse to use the substance. I'm not sure "faulty" cognitions would work; we wouldn't describe a fat person as having "faulty cognitions", they are just impulsively attracted to overeating. orry i have no idea. |
