Would you ever be a substance abuse counselor? |
Im going into college in a couple of years for psychology to do just that :) Absolutely. The experience I have is great in that area. Family and friends have taught me well. I think it is a great goal to go into a helping profession. Many schools offer a certificate to the undergraduate in addiction studies, but if you want good professional experience and to get your foot in the door there are many places to volunteer in most mid-sized cities. Good examples of this would be addiction crisis lines, that will train you to be an addiction counselor. This training looks great for graduate school (a must for a psych major) and it can help you cement your interest in addiction. Best of luck to you! Only if your heart is really into it. Some of the cases can be truly emotional and easy to become personally involved in (big mistake!) If this type of career is for you, go for it. just make sure it is. thats awesome! good for you =] I like the idea of helping people but my methods can be harsh. me too, people need to talk to someone to renounce their substance abuse habits.
