Tai Chi builds up your concentration because to do it right you really have to focus on everything you do, having concentration would definately help mentaly, its like training for you brain because your brain is a mucle too

Also it will help with your breathing, most people breath too shallow and doing tai chi will slowly make breathing deeply an unconcious process that will have so much benifits to mental and physical health + when you start to get into tai chi the possitions you can hold are very toning, alot of Tai Chi moves are the same as yoga since all martial arts originated from India so you will get a good tone too

Taijiquan (also Tai Chi Chuan, but same pronunciation) has numerous benefits for many ailments, but the broadest range of benefits are garnered when it is practiced in its full capacity. Now does this mean that you should immediately go straight for fighting or weapons training? No. It is a goal, but should be approached appropriately. Likewise this is not a new age fad that is done mindlessly just because it has gained some popularity. taijiquan should be approached in its entirety as a complete martial system that is also a path of personal development for physical and spiritual health.

The typical training in Taijiquan involves painstaking detail in biomechanics and structure as well as the stereotypical slow moving exercises. But remember these are training modalities, not the goal. In the complete traditional curriculum of Chen Style Taijiquan, only the long form and the sword form are done slowly. The rest of the forms and exercises can be done from moderate to fast speed and include an array of weapons, sparring and self defense exercises. This was an ancient Battlefield art that throughout the ages was brought to a very high state of development. Its root go deep.

Do your research well and hopefully you'll be encouraged to find a good instructor (has a verifiable lineag and didn't just learn it from a video) and start practicing. Good luck.

It is very good at relaxing the body, improving co-ordination and can be a very effective fighting style.

For your own sake I'd say make sure it's Chen Taijichuan and that it's taught by a teacher who doesn't just teach the flowy forms but actual practical application. I say Chen because from what I've been told by people who've done various styles of taijichuan is that Chen is the best.

Although it is difficult to find a good taijichuan teacher, it is very worth it if you can find one.

nope
