Does anyone understand ward-off energy in Tai Chi Chuan?

Does anyone understand ward-off energy in Tai Chi Chuan?

Ward off is probably amongst my favorite moves in Tai Chi Chuan. Understand also that different lineages perform it differently, but since most practice Yang, I will address that type.

Ward off is done when creating a circular shape with your arm, which causes it to be firm, but relaxed (the great paradox of Tai Chi Chuan). As with every move in the Yang form, it is stylistic and has many different applications. Again, with every move, the energy is derived from proper posture, proper rooting, and BREATHING! As mentioned by somebody else, you will feel chi/energy/ki/etc. when your palms pass, almost as if by magnetic force, or heat for a beginner.

Bear in mind also that every move in Tai Chi Chuan epitomizes Yin and Yang and actually creates the Yin Yang symbol in every move.

Beyond these general comments, I cannot say unless you make your question more specific.

Good luck in your training! Source(s): over 17 years training
Ward off energy is simply moving your own body in a way that uses your attacker's motion against him. You literally ward off the attack with a simple movement and minimal contact.
ward off in taiji

in the movement

"ward off"

the energy is going to be on the outside of the left arm, and as the hands cross they lightly press the qi between, the right moves downward to the hip, the movement is that of a reaping motion..

ward off is a reaping, tearing motion.. with the energy flowing in opposite direction, like two magnets opposing each other.. but constantly in pung..

if you add more detail to your question i might be able to answer better..
