Can a teen refuse mental health services?

Hi, I just turned 16. My parents told me last night that they are forcing me to go to see a counselour for at least 4 months because they said that I am not reaching the goals I set at the begining of the year, but really I know they are forcing me to go because I dont meet their expectations of being social and having lots of friends because I am very shy. It turns out that they went behind my back without even talking to me about the issue and meeting with a therapist and set up 5 meetings without my approval to meet with her so I can "improve myself". It also turns out that everyone in my family knew about the therapist before I even did. They said if I improve after a few months they will consider letting me go off therapy (without any input from me). I know this may be best for my social skills, but if I dont like it, are there any laws saying I can refuse to participate? are there any other realted laws dealing with teen mental health?

In Nebraska.

I dont think that you'd get arrested if you skipped your sessions, but then theyd say that you were being rebellious and need some sort of attention. If you sit there during the meeting then theyd say something else was wrong with you.So i suggest going with it,its not like its going to kill you.Besides it may just help.Other than that do what your heart tells ya to.

since your under the age of 18 you basically have few rights unless your legally emancipated.

But I dont think you want that.

You dont have the right to refuse treatment, but you can just sit there and say nothing.

I wouldent say a word the whole time, just sit there, dont talk to them, dont talk about anything.

no, dont just sit there and say nothing, it would make things worse or to be more specific, it would make u look dumb, u should just go with the flow, and tell your therapist that your parents force you to this without talking to you and tell your therapist ur shy n stuff, he or she will understand, lol its not that hard, all they do is talk to you and help you and help you answer your questions, etc
