Anyone had experience with thyroid disorders?

I just found out that I have a thyroid disorder. In the last year I have gained some weight and couldnt lose it no matter what I did. I've joined the gym and eat very healthy......when I get my thyroid regulated, will the weight come off? Can anybody share some experiences with me on your thyroid probs, such as mood swings, weight problems, etc. Thank you

You must be hypothyroid which I am also. It showed up during my pregnancy & went away for 10 years. It has returned 3 years ago, I'm levothyrox 50 mg. Before it was determine I had thyroid problems, I was having a variety of symptoms.
I've been healthy all my life, I eat well & exercise. When I began having symptoms, I just felt off. I felt there was something wrong with my body & felt like ****. I was very emotional, I also felt pressure on my thyroid & I have problems with my weight & you tend to lose your outer eyebrow. Be leery of the medical profession who gave me anti-depressants (I was not depressed) so I never took them, beta blockers (because my heart was racing) which I took for a short time & finally thyroid pills. I also tried accupunture to help with my symptoms until they determined my thyroid was off, this helped a great deal.
You didn't mention how old you were, you don't have to give an exact age but usually thyroid problems show up later in life. I have three friends, who have thyroid problems (hypothyroid) & my friend's mom, it's autoimmune disease. One friend was in her 30's, one friend is her 50's & her mom in her 80's. The 80 year old thought she was just getting old but her voice kept changing.
Beside the medication I'm off fluoride, my water has a filter on it. Fluoride interferes with thyroid absorption. Source(s): *Nursing background 20 years &
personal experience.
I have not had a thyroid disorder..but my step-mother has had one..and she treated it with a medication that her doctor gave her...after it was gone she now weighs 129 lbs..after having 5 children..

Hope this help...=]
I don't have a thyroid disorder/disease that I know of as of yet (will eventually be finding that out) but from others that I have talked to that have had hypothyroidism that when they went on the medication to help regulate the thyroid the weight that they gained started coming off.

I will be in the process of trying to find out if I have something going on with my thyroid besides the other health issues I have because I'm having a struggle to lose weight too.
Thyroid meds do not cause weight loss, but once you are at the right levels it will usually make it easier with diet and exercise. The whole key to this is learning as much as you can about the condition and the various treatments. That way, you can fight for the proper care if the current course of treatment is not working. Just because a doctor tells you your thyroid levels are in range, does not make the condition in control. It's only in control when almost all of your symptoms are gone and do not settle. Know what thyroid levels should be...usually a morning TSH of 1.0 for those on T4 and usually high in range free levels for those on T4/T3 meds.

I had almost every hypo symptom when first diagnosed and thry kept getting more severe. I finally got diagnosed when they were severe and put on T4. The T4 gave me a perfect TSH, but I still did not feel well. Eventually I got put on Armour and 95% of my symptoms are gone. Never settle until you feel as good as I do.

It should come off, but it still won't be as easy as it would for someone without a thyroid disorder. I have an underactive thyroid. I didn't realize it could cause so many different symptoms. Like puffiness in my face, and carpal tunnel syndrome. Make sure you keep your appointments and follow your doctor's directions when taking the medication, it usually says to take it on an empty stomach. Good Luck.
