Possible thyroid disorder? Any help?

I had complications during my pregnancy and was put on bedrest and ended up gaining over 60 pounds. Now it's a year later and I've only managed to lose 25 of that 60. Im getting desprate and have been dieting SO much like counting calories and really eating a lot less and EXCERSIZING. I take my son on a daily walk and do countless home excersizes on top of that. Such as cardio work out videos and stuff from fitness websites. But I literally am stuck, Im 5'5" and 170 and cannot, no matter how hard I try get to 169.
My husband recently read an atricle and is convinced I have a throid disorder. This is how we found out I had preecclmpsia, but im wondering if anyone has any information on Thriod Disorders. What should I look for, or do to help. I do have a DR apt coming up, but was hoping to go in somewhat educated on the topic already. Does anyone have any advice or help, possibly from experience??? Please help, I miss my food and free time!

hi , ok first, relax a bit, you have done well and sensibly to loose what you have at that time frame! stress doesnt help! it is not uncommon for the body to reach a setpoint! ie it goes into no! mode and will actually burn muscle if it can to save fat for that "possible famine" that good ol mother nature has a program for!.
a simple blood test will let you know re thyroid issues, also ask for liver function and cholesterol count. do not take statins if offered! type -statins +adverse events -into search, and you will see why i say this!
type thyroid into search. there is a great usa thyroid site with good info on it. symptoms can include ..lethargy, lumpy glands under chin, restlessness ,inability to sleep although "exhausted", missing or heavy periods..all can vary from person to person.
don't go bingeing, but relax the diet and keep up the excersizing! avoid packet /frozen anything! Source(s): experience
I just looked this up for myself, these are some symptoms of hypothyroidism
Fatigue
Weakness
Weight gain or increased difficulty losing weight
Coarse, dry hair
Dry, rough pale skin
Hair loss
Cold intolerance (can't tolerate the cold like those around you)
Muscle cramps and frequent muscle aches
Constipation
Depression
Irritability
Memory loss
Abnormal menstrual cycles
Decreased libido
Heat Palipitations
The thing to know is the testing for a thyroid problem can be hit and miss, I use to be on a medication for it, then my doctor took me off it, because I didn't show as having a problem on the blood work, and she said even if I did, it wasn't bad enough for medicine. But recently alot of the symptoms above have gotten worse. So I'm going back to be retested. If it doesn't show up the first time, ask to be tested for it again.
Personal experience
Step 1: Have a thyroid test.

Then you KNOW.

Go from there.
I HAVE THE SAME PROBLEM I WAS DX WITH HYPOTHYROIDISM...AND I STILL CANNOT LOOSE THE WEIGHT....THERE IS MEDICATION TO TAKE,,BUT MAKE SURE YOUR DR..TEST ALL THE TSH LEVELS..THE TEST WILL COME BACK WITH #S BETWEEN 1 AND 5 THE LOWER THE # THE BETTER....IF YOUR DR SAYS IT 3 LET DR KNOW YOU WANT TO COME DOWN TO #1...GO ON LINE AND FIND A SITE FOR SUSAN LARK, MD SHE HAS A GREAT ARTICLE ON THIS SUBJECT...OTHER THINGS YOU CAN DO NOW INCREASE FOLIC ACID, HIGH QUALITY OF VITAMINE A C E AND THE B'S 500-1,000MG DAILY REDUCING STRESS,, GOOD LUCK WITH YOUR DR..
these are sure signs of thyroid disorder, fatigue, dry hair and skin, weight gain, foggy brain,i have hypothyroidism and it is a drag i am tired all the time sometimes i feel as if i cant even move. it is hard to lose weight but with a simple blood test and the right medication youll be on your feet in no time losing weight! hope this helps.
