Why do i keep getting re-occuring UTI's? (Urinary tract infections?)?

I keep getting UTI's i do everything to try deter them eg. urinating before and after sex. I shower 1 -2times a day and i follow what ever my doctor tells me to do to try and prevent it. My doc thinks i might have bladder or kidney cysts but i still have to go to get the ultrasound. any ideas?

I use to have frequent bladder infections. I discovered that some people have a shorter than normal urethra (the tube the urine passes through to get out of the bladder) which leads them to get bladder infections more easily. (If the urethra is shorter, it is easier for bacteria to get in causing the infection).

Things I found that help prevent bladder infections:
- drink enough water so that you have to pee atleast once an hour. If urine is allowed to sit in the bladder too long it has a greater chance of allowing bacteria to grow
- Don't hold your urine in for a more convient time to pee if you are out somewhere, a full bladder stretches the urethra even shorter making it easier for bacteria to enter the bladder.
- take extra vitamin C. If you take more than your body needs, the extra will be excreated through your urine (turning it yellow). The extra vitamin C in your urine will cause it to be acidic which makes it harder for bacteria to grow in it.
- Try wearing only cotton materials because synthetics tend to keep heat and moisture in which aid bacteria growth. (No spandex, nylon underwear, stockings, etc)
- get a real mild soap (like baby soap) to wash that area with because soaps, especially those with perfumes and dyes can irritate and lead to infections.
- Check your sanitary supply labels to make sure they ar perfume free. If they are you may want to try a different brand. Any irritation in that area can lead to a bladder infection.
- Avoid baths and hot tubs, they tend to increase the number of bladder infections in some people.
- I know white cotton underwear are boring, but believe it or not, washing underwear without very hot water and bleach does not always kill all of the germs. Studies have shown that bacteria can hold onto clothes if the water and/or dryer temperature is too low. If you use only white underwear you can use both bleach and hot water to clean them.
- Always wipe from front to back to prevent pulling bacteria forward to your urethra.
- If you have been doing anything that potentially involves bacteria (like playing with a dog, wiping kids noses, etc) wash your hand BEFORE going to the bathroom.

After many years of frequent bladder infection, strange rashes here and there, and bumps in her mouth, my neice discovered that she was allergic to products made by Proctor and Gamble. Once she quit using those products she quit having bladder infections.

UTI's can be caused by so many things. First off, are you a diabetic? Diabetics are more prone to UTI's because their urine has more glucose in and bacteria love sugar as much as we do! Secondly, your normal anatomy may just be slightly different from veryone elses in that you have a shorter urethra. The shorter the urethra, the easier it is to get a UTI. There ar e avariety of kidney disorders (like kidney reflux) that could cause this..... though infection in this case usually occurs in the kidney. Get the ultrasound.... even if it's not cysts, it might give a better picture as to what's causing this.

UTI's can be caused by using to much detergent to wash your clothes or by taking baths, especially bubble baths....or by your bladder not emptying completely when you urinate.

Also, if you were prescribed antibiotics and you didn't finish taking them, the infection may have become resistant to them and not clear completely.

Ask your doctor to send a urine sample for culture and sensitivity, which will tell you the type of bacteria causing the infection and the proper antibiotic to take.

To prevent UTI's, drink lemonade which will keep your urine acidic.

Aside from the normal recommendation of using cranberry juice, take colloidal silver - a lot, like a cup at a time, and drink lots of water on a continual basis. Also take Vitalzym X (go to http://www.totalityofbeing.com and look for the articles on it)

Once you get recurring UTI's it's harder to get rid of. Statisically it can make you more prone to bladder cancer.

Eat an alkaline diet, and you can also try Terramin clay. This alkalizes your pH. You should do this for a long time if not forever, it can't hurt and it's good for you.
