If you have Leucocytes in your urine, does this mean you have a urinary tract infection? |
If you have Leucocytes in your urine, does this mean you have a urinary tract infection? It means there is a infection, it dose not have to be a UTI. Agree with the other poster. The presence of leucocytes is suggestive that an infection has likely been present. However, it would not necessarily have been a UTI. It would depend on what other symptoms are present (and if any other tests have been done etc). Depends upon the number of leucocytes per high power field. Female: 8 or more, Male: 5 or more are suggestive of UTI. It has to be confirmed on culture. Also, the presence of nitrites in urine suggests UTI. if you didn't get a clean catch urine sample it chould be from that . most often the Dr that i work for usually treats infection when both the nitrates and the leukocytes are positive |
