My Cat Has urinary tract infection? |
well i took my cat into the hospital because he was blocked and well they took out the urine from his bladder that had built up. the doc said something about catheter. well I'm taking him to the vet tomorrow morning. They will put him on meds first, to see if it clears up. But if it doesnt, they might have to go in with surgery. But it should clear up on the meds. If it was an UTI then they stick a catheter inside him to get the urine out, that has been blocker for a while. It wouldnt have come out by itself, and the bladder would have exploded, spilling toxins into his body. Good thing you got him to the vet in time! Good Luck! I had a cat that had kidney renal failure and we gave him meds and it made him better for a little while then he just got worse and eventually died. Surgery can help if meds don't, but keep in mind that even if you get him care he may be already to sick to save. Not to depress you sorry. You can try giving the cat some cranberry juice like with humans it works, as well as a chemical free diet. Your vet will likely try medicine first, but may recommend surgery. My honest advice is simply to listen to the vets instructions as good vets don't recommend surgery lightly. One thing that will help, is making sure the cat gets plenty of fluids. Because cats developed as a desert species, their bodies are designed to derive their required liquid intake through the bodies of prey animals. So their thirst instinct is not well developed, and even in the presence of the fanciest of pet water fountains may not drink enough to make up for what they do not get from dry food. When my cat had this issue, I fed him the prescription canned food for his condition. And he would still have the occasional UTI. Then I stumbled across this article: http://catfood.tribe.net/thread/8db33940... . One thing I learned from it is how important water intake is in order for a cat to recover from this condition. So I decided to add 2-3 tbs of water to each serving of canned food. After I started doing that, he has had no more problems. He has been free of difficulty for almost 3 years. Now that his condition has stabilized and improved, I only add 1-2 tbs of water. Most get better without surgery. The doctor catheterized his bladder so he could pass urine. Sometimes these catheters are left in for a couple of days. The vet should have done a urinalysis to determine the cause. Many times a special prescription diet needs to be fed for life. I would do something because my cat died from it. He was healthy otherwise and just died. So get it meds from the vet, give it special urinary tract food (easy to find in stores, very common) and just give it dry cat food only and it SHOULD be fine my cat died from it.... :( |
