A question about urinary tract infections?

my friend was talking to me about someone who had it. we can't decide if it would be contagious. i think it wouldn't be but she thinks that it can be some how passed through sex. i can't see how it would but....we just want to know who's right.

a UTI (urinary tract infection) is not a sexually transmitted disease but as previous person stated it is bacteria present in the bladder. Can happen as a result of sex given that our skin has many bacteria living on it. Women are more prone to UTI's as we have a shorter urethra then men.

To reduce the incidence of a UTI best idea is to urinate or wee after having sex. Also to wear cotton gusset knickers and to wipe from front to back after going to the toilet.

Good intake of water is also useful.

With symptoms of burning a urinary alkalising medication is of benefit as well as cranberry juice. If symptoms persist then yopu need to see your Dr for antibiotics.

Hope this has been helpful to you and your friend.

You can not PASS a UTI during sex like an STD but you can get a UTI from sex if you are not careful. UTIs happen when bacteria gets into your urethra and multiplies so if your bf is rubbing bacteria into your urethra you could get an infection, also if you have anal sex and then vaginal you could get an infection that way as well but it cannot be transferred like an std.

Urinary tract infections (UTIs) are not contagious, and they are not considered an STD, but if you have a urinary tract infection, your symptoms could be aggravated if you have sex. Some people do get urinary tract infections after they have sex, but that could be caused by not urinating after sex, not by the sex itself.
