Does this sound like a urinary tract infection? |
Monday morning I experienced a mild burning sensation while urinating. I figured it was a UTI coming on so I started drinking lots of water and cranberry juice. All day during Tuesday the burning seemed to disappear. This morning when I woke up it was back. Does this sound like a UTI even though the burning sensation disappeared for a short time? And if so, how long do UTI's usually last? Any suggestions? SEE BELOW - everything about UTI Yes, it does sound like a UTI. The website that was given above is very informative, but doesn't quite answer your question. A bladder infection can come back if all of the bacteria is not gone. What you probably did was wash out most of it, but even if a couple of little bacterias are left, they multiply quickly and before you know it, you have symptoms again. The only way to get rid of a UTI completely is make sure all of the bacteria is gone. Usually antibiotics are prescribed, but there are other ways to get rid of them without turning to those. If you are able to flush your bladder completely with what you were doing, keep doing it for three or four days non stop. Hopefully that will get rid of any bacteria left behind. Good luck! Burning on urination is a sign of UTIs so it is possible. As with this condition, it can go away briefly & return like you said. You probably need an antibiotic esp. if the cranberry juice didn't help like it usually does in some minor infections. You probably need to be put ob Cipro or Levaquin. Please see your doctor since he or she can usually tell by checking your urine (or do a culture). Good luck. I could be a UTI but it can also be alot of different things. They have an over the counter medicine you can buy for UTI'S . Drink lots of fluids and also wear 100% cotton panties.I wouldn't wait to long to go see your DR. I get it sometimes. I think it is the beginning of one but you just have to listen to your body. Go and get some AZO at your local drug/grocery store. It is a life saver. I'm not sure what you have but you will know when you have a UTI. They are so painful! Burning when you urinate doesn't necessarily mean you have a UTI. Sometimes you can have some irritation that can cause burning, but it is a sign of a UTI. Alot of times you will have the urgency to go alot but there is hardly any urine coming out when trying to urinate, you can see some blood in your urine and your urine will not be a clear yellow like it usually is also it may have a strong smell to it. If symptoms persist longer than 24-48 hours I would go to the doctor and get my urine checked out. If it does turn out tobe a UTI your doc will put you on some antibiotics so that it will clear the infection up. If you let it persist the infection could travel to you kidneys and cause them to become inflamed and trust me you don't want that been there and done that! Drinking alot of fluids will help by flushing the kidneys and bladder out, but if infection is already set in it want do much good. Remember UTIs do not clear up on there own, they are caused by bacteria that has found its way into you urethra(girls are really prone because our urethra is so close to our rectum, so remember to wipe front to back!) and set up some infection. Just be careful UTIs can be very painful and you can get very sick! Good Luck! |
