Do you need the right antibiotic to treat Urinary Tract Infection? |
I still have it even though I have been on lots of antibiotics, it's still not going away. They are currently doing a Urine Culture which should indicate what kind of bacteria I have. Sometimes if a broad spectrum antibiotic does not work they will grow a culture and prescribe a different, specific antibiotic. The urine culture will also come with a sensitivity listing which means whether the organism (bug) that is present in your urinary tract infection is "sensitive" to this organism or resistant. The more times you have taken an antibiotic, the higher the chance that your infection will be resistant to the antibiotics prescribed. Then, your physician will need to pick another antibiotic which is sensitive to the organism growing in order to clear this up. The right antibiotic is the one that will finally clear up your infection and only your physician will be able to determine this after your urine culture has been completed. Yes, the need a certain type of antibiotic that works specifically for you, that is why the other kinds aren't working. sometimes antibotics can cause infections or make them worse |
