How do you prevent a UTI (Urinary Tract Infection)?

Okay I already am getting a little of the symptoms of a UTI. I would like to know if there is any way I can prevent a UTI with out the medication. If I drink cranberry juice will that clean out my system and help? Just someone who knows how to deal with this please help me. Thank you so much.

Taking cranberry capsules (with dried, concentrated cranberry juice in them - called AZO, they available at most pharmacies over the counter) or drinking pure cranberry juice raises the ph of your urine, making it harder for bacteria to settle in your bladder, urinary tract and kidneys. It is a great way to *prevent* getting an infection.
Drinking plenty of water (not soda or sugary juices) can also help a lot. Avoid coffee and tea, as these can actually increase your chances of developing a UTI.
However, once you have already gotten an infection, you need to see a doc to have your urine cultured to verify that you have an infection and to get a prescription of antibiotics. There are a couple other possible causes for symptoms that mimick a UTI that are not a UTI. Your doc can test and be sure. Also, since it is possible for a UTI to worsen and travel up to your kidneys, don't wait to get treatment.
Hope you are feeling better soon!

If you already have an infection, you will need to go the doctor and get meds. But drinking water and taking AZO will help with the uncomforatble symptoms. To prevent one in the future, drink lots of water, always wipe from front to back, don't hold it when you have to go, and ALWAYS pee after sex to flush out any bacteria. You're supposed to pee within 10 minutes after having sex. And it's good to pee right before sex as well.

I'm getting the symptoms too, but I'm ignoringg it. Okay, my mom has one. So she told me to stop eating salty foods (i.e junkfoods most esp.) then, drink lots of water (idk if cranberry juice helps, maybe maybe not) lastly.. don't halt if you feel like peeing. Holding it makes it worse. hope this helps.

Cranberry juice, lots of water. Try a small glass of water with 2 tbsp. of Apple Cider Vinegar.

No soda!

do something about it.., when i was starting to have symptoms.. i drank alot of coconut juice the freshly made ones., no canned or nothing like that. fresh ones! coconut heals errthing

Learn to wipe your bottom correctly! If you are a girl that is... You pass your hand from behind, never infront of your genitals, and wipe backwards (towars your back!!)

Drunk LOTS of water, always keep a bottle of water with you wherever you go.

Lot's of fluids, wipe correctly, get rid of the thongs, pants not so
tight in the crotch.....You may still need a check up to be safe.
Feel better.........m
