Uterine Cancer in Female Rabbits???

Hi.
I have a 2 year old Mini Rex Rabbit that will be 3 on October 15, 2008.
She is not spayed. I was wondering the symptoms of this cancer, and if I should get her spayed. I know they will act better, and I heard about this cancer that female rabbits can get if they are not spayed.
Do you have any more info???

I don't know what else you are looking for, but here is a site that deals with rabbit medicine, written by pet rabbit experts:

The cancers can be found in intact does as young as age two; they take out the whole uterus which most times gets rid of it. If the cancer has spread, it many times goes to the lungs, and other organs, and is then impossible to treat. People have tried chemo etc, but rabbits do not have a history of surviving these treatments. Most times, cancer kills them quickly, it can happen in only a few months. I have had many rabbits with many types of cancer dumped on me, and we can only give them support until they die. It is so much easier to get the operation.

BTW: for the person that said female will get fat because of getting spayed, that is not true at all. (males either) Report It

It is a very good idea to get a female bunny spayed, for her own good. I got my holland spayed when she was 6 months old. Recouperation was less than a week, and she is now safe from the number 1 female bunny killer ever, and she is happier than ever. I think it best to get your baby fixed so that she remaines happily in your life.

good luck

I think how it is detected is by the vet feeling for lumps or tightness. Also, after the female is spay, she will get fat so you have to reduce the pellet intake. Your rabbit is young so I would do it soon. Definately spay her, she will live longer.
