Varicose vein irritation?

I have a new varicose vein on the inside of my right leg @ knee level (feels like a small bump). I was pressing it quite a bit last night to see how big it was and this morning it was quite tender and a bit sore. Is that a bit of bruising from my touching it or is it something more? Don't want to go to doctor if it's just some bruising that will go away. It's my first varicose vein (40yrs old). My father was prone to them

Hi,

Varicose veins can arise from lack of circulation and the ageing process. I will give you some suggestions that I hope you find useful.

1. Make sure you are drinking enough water
2. You can soothe any inflammation by *gently* massaging the area with chamomile oil diluted in grapeseed oil. Chamomile is great for reducing any swelling and soothing the skin.
3. Exercise. If there's a park near you, you could try some light exercise to boost circulation.
4. Eat a healthy balanced diet, with lots of variety. Avoid fatty options, particularly cheeses, and high fat dairy products.

The link below says these are ways to treat varicose veins:
1. Avoid standing still for long periods of time
2. Take regular exercise, such as walking
3. Maintain a healthy weight
4. Wear properly fitted compression stockings to prevent further deterioration of existing varicose veins

Best wishes.

get some tight fitting socks/stockings. varicose are caused by blood not going back up to your heart, and it starts to "pool". stockings help to aid in venous return.
