My partner is suffering from sore varicose veins?

he said it feels hot, was burning since earlier today
he saw doctor who said he didnt think it was Phlebitis or thrombosis, just sore varicose veins and to take Diclofenac.

he dosent know whether to take this or whether 2x paractemol would do as the pains gone off is achy but not severe pain

is voltarol (diclofenac) not a really strong painkiller? im sure my mum took it when she had sciatica. would paractemol be ok to use?

help please?

Paracetamol would be fine but he would probably be better off with the diclofenac as it is an anti inflammatory as well as a pain killer.

If varicose veins are the problem, raising the legs up high will help.

If you are concerned about thrombosis you will feel better if you know the exact signs and symptoms so that you can be aware of what to look for and know how to check it.

Calf will swell, start to turn blue and the foot will becaome blue/mauve and swollen too. The calf will feel hot and the foot will feel cold to the touch. Temperature will be raised. If you measure the calf againt the measurement of the other calf, it will be larger. Severe pain. The pedal pulse will noot be present.

To check the pedal pulse which is quite difficult to find unless you know exactly where to feel, it might be wise to follow my instructions and find both pulses now. Mark an X on the spot on each foot where you find them and then in an emergency or if you are worried you will be able to go straight to them.

Put your fingers (NEVER YOUR THUMB) at the point where the big toe and second toe meet on the top of the foot. Now move them half way along the top of the foot in a straight line. Press with two or three fingers. If you do not feel a pulse, just move your fingers backwards and forwards and side to side until you do. It will definitely be in the general area that you are already in. Once you have foun it, maek it with biro and as the mark starts to wear off through showering just keep going over it with a biro again because obviously if you let them wear off completely you will have to go through the hassle of finding them again.

If any of the signs or symptoms I have mentioned are present, get him to hospital, on't wait thinking it will go away.

If none of these signs or symptoms are present, then there is definitely no thrombosis present.

Hope this helps.

Love Mel.X

Voltaren/ diclofenac is a potent anti-inflammatory, as well as good pain killer that works in some conditions; your patient should follow doctors instructions exactly as prescribed. If you have questions regarding drug compatibility, you should consult with licensed pharmacist/ druggist at your local pharmacy
