Can varicose veins cause cramping? or vice versa? |
I have been having some weird cramps in my legs for the past few days. When I look at the back of my legs I see my veins, which I never saw before. Is this the start of Varicose Veins? Can this be treated? My legs feel very strained. They protrude or bulge from under the skin and feel ropey. The legs often ache and feel heavy and itchy. Symptoms can intensify after a long day of standing on one's feet. One may have severe pain upon standing or even have cramps in the legs at night Source(s): http://www.emedicinehealth.com/varicose_... MAYBE A LACK OF A VITAMIN OR MERAL FROM YOUR DIET The cramping is coming from your muscles in your legs. The veins have nothing to do with that. Varicose veins are caused by a weakening in the wall of the vessel. I usually get cramps in my legs when I have worked out alot or am low on Potassium. I have had cramps in my legs for about five years now. I used to wake up every night with cramp .... but ... wherever I get cramp I also get it in exactly the same place on my other leg. If one foot get cramp, so does the other. It's really strange. I am a Diabetic and get checked out regularly. The Specialists have told me that my circulation is perfect. I am 55 years of age .... and no Varicose Veins. Not even looking like I'm going to get them. My Doctor prescribed : Quinine Sulphate Ta 300mg(RED)(Q3) tablets for me. One tablet an hour before going to bed with a large glass of water. Since taking them (3 months) I have had no cramp and get a good nights sleep. Mind you ... you just might have a blockage in an artery ... .best you go get it checked out asap. Good luck.... take care. yes it can hurt badly, i had to take pain meds because it ached so bad, i am dealing with it now, you can go to a vascular doctor and have them strip your veins that is supposed to help, i haven't had that done yet but i am going to look into as soon as i can. for now to help relieve your symptoms elevate your leg when you can, wear a ace bandage around the affected leg, and take advil or motrin as needed. i hope this helps some good luck! p.s try not to sit with your legs crossed. and stay off your feet as much as possible! currently dealing with same problem. 1st year nursing student |
