Varicose Veins or something else? |
I HAVE WHAT LOOK LIKE BRUISES ALL OVER MY LEGS. THEY CHANGE COLORS. BURGUNDY WHEN I STAND AND FADE TO PURPLE LATER. I AM 32 YRS OLD, THEY DON'T LOOK LIKE ANY OF THE PHOTOS I HAVE SEEN FOR VARICOSE VEINS. THEY ARE PAINFUL TO TOUCH AND SOMETIMES ITCH. I HAVE DEVELOPED TWO NEW ONES, ONE ON TOP OF MY FOOT AND NOW ON MY KNEE CAP. DON'T KNOW IF I SHOULD SEE A DOCTOR, OR IF IT IS JUST VARICOSE VEINS. ANY INFO WOULD BE HELPFUL. From what I know - varicose veins dont behave like that. Are you on your feet allot (nurse, hairdresser)? That's usually how you get them. I would have a dr. check it out esp. if they're painful. My first piece of advice to you is to definitely see your doctor. With that said though, what you're describing does sound similar to what an individual would see/feel with varicose veins. Varicose veins occur when for one reason or another blood starts to pool in veins and isn't circulated properly. What can happen eventually is that the vein either becomes non-productive, or it may burst (causing what looks like a bruise). The most common location for them to occur is in the legs, just as yous are. There isn't any underlying danger to you per se, but your doctor can deal with the symptoms and possibly refer you to a specialist who may be able to alleviate the problem somewhat. FYI...There are certain factors that put you at a higher risk for getting varicose veins such as: a family history of varicose veins, poor diet, and a lack of exercise. I'm a nurse |
