What exactly is varicose veins? Do they stick out or are they just visible? Varicose Viens are part of a disease called Chronic Venus Insufficiency. Basically, the blood flow going to your heart are managed by the veins. there are two venus systmes in your legs, The deep and the superficial. There are many bridging veins that connect between the two systems. Inside these veins are Valves to keep the blood moving. Varicose Viens are cause when the Valves fail. Thus allowing the blood to back up in the veins. The more blood the bigger the vein becomes. To reduces V.V. are keep your feet up when your sitting down and where support stockings/hose while your standing or execising. This keep the blood moving to different bridging viens and decrease the size of the V.V. There are also proceedures that can remove the veins. The easist one is EVLT which a laser basically occludes the Great saphenous vein and allows the blood to go to the deep veins. It is an outpatient proceedure and your on your feet later that day.
