Is it true that washing your legs in water when they feel tired and sore makes you get varicose veins??? What causes varicose veins? they are caused mostly by genetics and standing on your feet alot or crossing your legs when you sit. But really genetics is the most important answer here. That is an old wives tale. Vericose veins are caused by excessive strain on the legs and pregnancy. For example, if you have a job that requires you to stand all day, or if you wear high heels all the time when you walk, etc. Varicose veins are two things.
