Violence Against Women in the UK?

The United States has some scary statistics about violence against women.

The CDC claims 1 out of 4 women suffer from domestic violence:

The CDC also claim homicide is the leading cause of death among pregnant women and new mothers:

According the the FBI, 32% of women who are murdered are murdered by husbands, boyfriends, partners, etc:

Does anyone know if the statistics are similar in the UK? Is this as big of a problem in the UK as it is in the US. Why or why not?

I am against violence against women

I believe it is the same all over the world.

what i have read, every 15 seconds in america domestic abuse takes place, but i don't think the U.K is worse than america in violence against women

Not sure on the statistics but that's happening all over the world....and getting worse.

The United Kingdom is least likely place to have violence against women. Christian Women in the US and UK have freedom thank god!..... i totaly disagree with women having to have headscarfs and not being alowd places i class that as violence to women. owell its there choice there religion we all unique and differnt human beings!

I think its pretty universal, the worrying thing is, we don't know the true statistics, because a vast majority of women do not report the domestic abuse, the Murders and Rapes I would think are similar statistics

I think this is something of an urban myth. I meet women everyday and they haven't been murdered or assaulted.

Statistics for violence against women
Violence against women is a major problem in the UK. In fact, almost half of all women in the UK experience domestic violence, sexual assault or stalking Findings from the British Crime Survey, 2004).
For some forms of violence against women such as forced marriage, female genital mutilation, rape and sexual violence, trafficking and forced prostitution we have limited statistics. This is due to a number of factors including: the hidden nature of the abuse; fear and stigma preventing reporting and lack of systematic data collection by the UK Government. The figures that are available are likely to be an underestimate.
Millions of women and girls every year are being beaten, raped, mutilated, abducted, forced to marry, and murdered. It鈥檚 time for the violence to stop.

Figures will be higher than the official figures as thousands of women do not report these crimes..
