Should not 'self defense' classes be part of the curriculum if there is so much violence against women and

children?

Would not knowing how to physically defend themselves help women and children from becoming rape or molest victims..

And before inane people say we taxpayers we can not afford it... think of the money we'd save from having to jail and prosecute those whom are able to molest and rape women and children....

I'd rather pay for those classes and spend the monies saved on paying the cops we do have more money for risking their lives for us. I'd also like to use those monies to give to programs that protect and help the victim with hospital costs...

Bwana if that is true, then why are most of the persons in jail for rape and child molestation are males, and their victims are mostly women or children... ? Why are also 89 percent of all domestic abuse cases also women and children?

There are programs for little or not cost, thouhg they have somewhat disappeared in the last few years. I use to teach one funded by a community coalition (Women Aainst Violence) in my community. I charged $25.00 (which I waived in 4 instances) for as many as would attend. I believe you are right . I do not believe self -defense promotes violence. The hardest part I had to deal with is training the mindset that women have as "givers". Most women , when the class started, did not think they could really take another life with their bare hands , to save themselves. If you beleive in your cause, recruit some friends and local merchants and some local police officers to help you. You can do this! Make a difference! If you save one life, just think!!!

This sounds like a good idea but in reality people will probably be arrested for trying to defend themselves. If someone breaks into your house and you happen to injure the burgler, you can be arrested! If you see someone being attacked and you try to help - you may be in danger of being arrested. Our country is gradually being turned into a haven for criminals and the politicians are turning a blind eye.

Actually, men are the most frequent victims of violence, all forms of violence.

Besides, learning how to defend yourself is the personal responsibility of every adult, and teaching children to protect themselves is the responsiblity of every parent.

Don't expect the government to do what you're responsible for.

All I can say is when my first wife meekly approached me about karate lessons, (Rn in a criminally insane ward.) my response was YES!!!! I don't believe in fighting. I do believe in defending yourself.

I believe most communities already have programs like this in place.
