How to narrow a research topic on discrimination against women in domestic violence? |
i am writing a research paper for my women study class and i wanted to know if i can narrow my topic more. my instructor said that my topic was good but she wants me to narrow it down. i dont really know what to do after this anyways. my topic is discrimination against women in domestic violence. Discrimination against women in domestic violence is quite broad. You could perhaps narrow it down to look at how the police and courts/wider legal system discriminate against women. For example, the cost and time involved in obtaining a protection order. Or you could look at 'societal' discrimination against women involved in domestic violence. For instance, how she may be ostracized in certain societies for speaking out against the violence or how her relationships with her husband's family, for example, might change. Perhaps you could address Blaming the Victim by those in an official capacity. The police used to ask me, "Why don't you leave him? Why do you let him do this to you? Why do you stick around for this?" They showed a remarkable capacity to misunderstand what was happening and to try to make it my fault. It is a fact that (in America) women initiate at least half of all domestic violence but that men get arrested upwards of 98% of the time. I'm quite serious. Shouldn't your topic be "discrimination against men...?" |
