My cats ear has a yeast infection, silly question about what i can do,help,it really stinks!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!?

my cats ear is black and smelly on the inside and i was told its a yeast infection, how do i get rid of it?can i use the same cream we women use?

Did a vet tell you this or just someone you know? Sounds like ear mites to me... Take some olive oil and put it in the cats ear, it won't like it but if it's mites they are biting and causing infection.. The oil will smother them and then you can clean them out gently with a Q-tip, repeat this until all are gone. If it's really bad you need to take the cat to a vet.... And I have never heard of a yeast infection in a cats ear.....

DO NOT put that yeast infection cream in his ears, it's not for being taken internally (cats lick their paws to clean their ears, he'll be injesting it that way) and the active ingredient in it will irritate the inside of his ears.

You need to get something specific from the vet to clear it up. Not treating it at all makes it even worse.

Vet, Vet, Vet!!!! Nothing can cure a ear infection, but antibiotics, in a cat. There are many, many reasons also, that could have caused these symptoms. It really needs to be seen by a VET.

Three causes of buildup in ears:
1. Bacterial infection
2. Yeast infection
3. Ear mites

Ear mite debris is generally "Crunchy" while yeast and bacteria infections are more "slimy".
The only way to find out what it is, would be to go to your vet, get an ear smear, and get the appropriate medication. Absolutely do not use over-the-counter medications on your cat, especially if designed for humans.

Edited to add: When your vet tests for ear mites, he or she will submerse them in oil in order to keep them from climbing off the slide. This does not kill them... so... oil in the ears won't do a darn thing except give them just a little more slime to live in.
