Are antibiotics ever issued for yeast infections?

I went to the doctor today because I was having what I thought were yeast infection symptoms - burning and itching. Before I went I tried Monistat, and a prescription yeast infection creme - I called my doc back because I was still experiencing discomfort. The nurse called in an antibiotic Flagyl saying it was bacterial (The itch started friday, its tuesday) Today i went in - he doctor said definitly not herpes( I knew that) that there was yeast in my urine so its prob a bad yeast infection, but she told me to continue the antibiotic. I thought antibiotics caused yeast infections. Any comments nurses and doctors please respond. Also, the itching seems worst at night.

good answers, I am confused because the doc said nothing about the bacterial part. She said it looks like a bad yeast infection, I could see yeast in your urine. Continue the antibiotic and I'll give you a prescription for an external itching creme. I'm worried that the yeast will take over due to the antibiotic, im on the pill, and im stressed about the infection.

No antibiotics are never issued for yeast infection. But the nurse said it's bacterial, didn't she? That's why.

You could be having both yeast and bacterial infection. It often happens if yeats infection is not resolved on time then bacterial infection kicks in as well. They both need to be treated.

there is a tablet that you can take now for yeast infection if the cream isn't working.

Taking medication can cause yeast infections - you can take some of that good bacteria vitamins to help with that.

ditto to the two above but you should also increase the amount of water you drink to help flush out your system and eat yogurt it helps ward off yeast infections also.........
