How do doctors check for yeast infections?

i am 15 and im going to the doctor tomorrow. im swollen itchy and it burns when i pee. but no discharge. but i told my mom and we're going to the doc tomorrow. i am not sexually active and i dont use tampons so i am extremely scared about things being put up me aka pap smear. do doctors HAVE to do a pap smear?? cant they just look and tell. im so scared also won't that break my hymen??

I had a yeast infection at 19 yrs old, not sexually-active, and never used tampons, and just like you i was terrified at going to the doctors. Eventually my mum made me go to the doctors, and all they did was ask me about my symptoms, and then did an external examination by just looking at the outer genital area. and diagnosed me with a yeast infection.

Doctors can tell whether you have a yeast infection by looking at your genitals. Normally there is a discharge in your genital area.
You say though there is no discharge and it burns when you pee - this could been you have a urinary tract infection. This can be tested by a simple urine test.
You only need to have a pap smear if you are sexually active although depending on the circumstances the doctor may need to do tests that involve going up your vagina - this wont neccesarily break your hymen but it is quite possible they can.

When I had a yeast infection they did look down there. It wasn't a pap smear but similar to one. They'll probably do the same to you, especially if you don't have any discharge. But don't worry- I wasn't sexually active the first time I had a pap smear and it didn't break my hymen. Docs (usually) know what they're doing and can avoid that sort of thing. It's pretty awkward though. Just keep reminding yourself that they've seen it all, they look at dozens of vaginas everyday and yours will be no different. You'll be fine!

since you are so young I highly doubt your doc will do a pap test. Usually just by describing it they should give you meds (that's what my doc does) They may just take a small swab of the fluids outside.... good luck sweetie!!!

the doctor will more then likley take a swab from the vigina but your hyman will not break some girls wear tampon and are still virgins with there hymans intact
