Why does my dog keep getting yeast infections??

I have a 3 year old Akita and this is the 2nd time in less then 6months that I have had her treated for this! Does anyone know how to stop her from getting these or anything natural to help??

Yeah its not that she鈥檚 too wet she hates water. She refuses to even go out when it raining! And god fro bid I turn the sprinklers on! LOL

Dogs that have thick long fur (like Akitas) can get yeast infections - especially on their skin - if they live in warm humid climates or if they are frequently wet. If your dog gets wet (water hose, swimming, etc) and then plops down without really airing out her fur, she can get a yeast infection anywhere on her body that stays warm and damp. If she's not getting lots of water in her fur, I don't know....

My in-laws' german shepherd had this problem, and it was caused by having constantly-damp fur. They live in a warm tropical area with extremely high humidity. When they wash out his doghouse with the water hose, the water didn't evaporate very well. So...he plopped down in the water and never completely dried out. A vet was able to successfully treat him.

Yeah, it's rarer for erect eared dogs to get reaccuring ear infections - does she swim lots or do you bathe her often? If so really dry out the ear canal afterwards.

There is also 'ear cleaners' that you can purchase to wash out the ear about every week that is drying for the ear canal - yeast like dark moist places.

If she has any hair near the ear canal that would block air flow or light - pluck it out or trim it.

If you want to look into raw feeding (as the previous poster suggested by the barf which stands for - bones and raw foods) that's an option that many owners swear by.

start feeding ur dog yogart daily or even yogart capsules. she sounds like she is a fair size so 2 caps a day or 1/2 cup of natural yogart in her food. this is a natural yeast killer and hopefully after she gets it into her system the infections will stop.they are caused by something she is eatting or it could be air borne.try to keep her dry especilly around the belly, private parts and inside her ears.my border collie and little poochi have had yeast infections in their ears and the b c down on her vulva, the yogat helps clear it up and even yeast creams for women work good too but just don't let her lick it off. with ears use equal parts of white vinegar and warm water and flush them out then dry. keep all affected areas dry since moisture causes yeast to build up and spread.u can also appy vaseline on the sores so moisture won't penatrate though their skin and keep the bacteria out.give it a try and hopefully u can keep the infections at bay. good luck

A diet change can often help, as a low-grade food allergy can cause recurring yeast infections. A raw diet would be fabulous, but if you're sticking with kibble, look for: no corn, no wheat, no soy, and food-grade ingredients. I would also go with a beef-free food. Canidae is one that works well for most people, it's good quality, fairly affordable, and available in most areas. Their web site has a dealer locator, it's usually found at feed stores and local pet stores.

It's mostly about the food. If you can, go Barf. You will see a miracle happen in a month time.
