Is the kind of acidophilus that you use for your digestive system the same as is used for yeast infections?

I just bought Acidophilus Pearls and it says they are good for the digestive system, but I've also read that acidophilus is used for yeast infections and vaginal health. Is it the same stuff?

We do house some of the same beneficial bacteria vaginally as well as in our intestines. In fact newborn babies get their first inoculations of friendly bacteria thru the birth canal or vagina.
The acidophilus pearls do contain just two strains and they also colonize in the vagina, but the pearls should not be inserted vaginally though. They are protectively coated and may not dissolve correctly in the vagina.
If you want to use probiotics vaginally, get one that is not enterically coated or coated in any way, like Jarro-Dophilus or PrimaDophilus. You can also use acidophilus powder and plain yogurt, put it on a tampon or some media to insert it. It really works well.

L. rhamnosus, L. acidophilus and B. bifidum are some of the strains found both vaginally and in the G.I. tract.

I don't have any idea about your problem. However, I came across a blog about yeast infection. Hope you find your answer there.

:)

Yes. acidophilus is a friendly bacteria that helps in digestion, but also helps keep your yeast levels in check. Good stuff.

Lactobacillus is good for restoring the bacterial balance in the stomach, its also a viable treatment for yeast infection and cold sores!
