I have help for women with recurring yeast infections: did you know...? |
For a year and a half, I suffered from recurring symptoms: burning urine and a red, inflamed, itchy vulva. I spent hundreds of $$ in copays and pills, going to gynecologist after gynecologist, testing negative for all STD's. They put me on every possible yeast infection medication, even though my cultures usually showed healthy flora and no yeast overgrowth. Despite one anti-yeast pill after after another and every possible cream, nothing was helping. Well, guess what?! I finally went to a GYN specialist who treats and studies disorders of the vulva, and she told me that I have lactobacilliosis, which occurs when lactobacilli bacteria attach to each other to create longer-than-usual strands. This is caused by too much acidophilus, and it can even create discharge. Few doctors know of the condition because it's "rare," and it's nearly always misdiagnosed as a chronic yeast infection! A few days of antibiotics will cure it, but be careful not to trigger an actual yeast infection. :) Thanks! Very interesting. I don't think I've ever had an infection, but this info is invaluable to women. Yeast Infections affect nearly 75% of all people, including both men AND women, at some point in their life. |
