Can you tell the difference between Vaginosis and a Yeast infection?

About 2 months ago I strted to get a bad odor down there especially during sex it was so embarrassing but my boyfriend really didnt mind. Went to the doctor and she gave me a gel to use, she said it was vaginosis. Now for the past 2 weeks, same odor came back and now its painful during sex. No discharge. I used an over the counter medicine for a yeat infection and it got rid of the odor but the pain is still there, last night the odor came back again...anyone have a clue what this is?

I would go to the doctor again but I dont have insurance and dont have that much money to spend on a 200 dollar doctor visit again.

There is a new otc tester thingy. It can tell you if its a bacterial infection or a yeast infection. Its made by vagisil.
