Please help- Could this be a yeast infection?

I am 15. I am NOT sexually active. I just got off my period and a day later I had these symptoms:

Red around vagina
Itchy
Sore feeling
A tiny bit of burning, mainly itchy
It does not smell foul, it smells like it always does
White discharge; Not thick just white

The itching kinda keeps getting worse. I took monistat last night thinking it was a yeast infection, woke up this morning and it was itching more than before- not a lot more but just a little more.

What can I do? I'm only 15 and I am SO embarrassed to tell my mom to go to the doc- its not that easy to let someone look at me down there. My sister secretly bought the monistat for me. Please help, i'm so embarrassed, uncomfortable, scared. Could the monistat give me relief soon?

I got my first yeast infection when I was just 16 and not sexually active yet. I was embarrassed and scared as well. I remember my mom buying me canestan, and it didn't do anything for me.

My mom ended up calling our family doctor and telling her what I was going through and she prescribed me a pill (1 single pro-biotic pill) to take. 24 hours later, it was gone! Victory!

So wait just to see if monostat helps. Make sure you have plenty of yogurt and cranberry juice (they really help with infections...) and avoid foods with vinegar... it'll just irritate you even more.

If it doesn't get better, you'll have to go see a doctor. Don't worry, most women go through that at some point or another.

Sounds like it could indeed be a yeast infection. If so, it will take a few days for the Monostat to do its job, then a few more days for the redness and irritation from the yeast infection to resolve.

If you are uncomfortable, you can try an over the counter anti-itch cream (such as Vagisil) to help ease the symptoms. This does not cure the infection, just helps ease the symptoms while the Monostat cures the infection.

You should feel steadily better over the next few days. If not, you need to see a doctor.
