Antibiotics and Yeast Infections....? |
(I posted this here because I know there are alot of females in this section that may have good answers!) I went to see my Dr on Tuesday and was diagnosed with Strep Throat. He gave me Amoxicillin 500 mg 3X daily for 10 days. I started that very day. The next day (yesterday) I developed a yeast infection (?!!) so I called the same Dr who prescribed the antibiotic and he said no biggie, he called in another prescription for Fluconazole which is just ONE SINGLE pill?!?!?!? Has anyone had this happen to them, did the Fluconazole work for them? How quick did it work? Did the yeast infection end up coming back at all before you finished the antibiotic? Yes, the antibiotic is for 10 days (ill be on it until next Friday) If you are still taking the antibiotics go to the drug store and get acidiphillus tablets. I take them all the time with antibiotics because I hate yeast infections. The fluconazole will help you but it is just one pill, if you are continuing the antibiotics then it might come back. I'm on antibiotics right now and I take the antibiotic with the acidiphillus pill at the same time. Feel better! Go and get the medicine Lotromin, it is an OTC medication. My daughter has to take medicine and a side effect is Yeast Infection :( My DR actually prescribed this for her, it made me laugh because it is for Athletes Foot but her DR said that it is all fungus in the end and it will provide fast relief. Are you still on the antibiotic? If so I think the 7 day treatment is better. It can come back after 1 week so having the antifungal still there will help a lot. |
