Penicillin and yeast infection? |
hi i had an abscessed tooth about 2 weeks ago and was put on penicillin for it i just finished the medicine now i have a terrible itch "down there" its so horrible i want to kill myself no odor or discharge and ive gotton tested and know i have no std's. ive heard that penicillin can cause an infection is this true. also im 37 weeks pregnant.. so what safely can i take my drs is closed and i want to get something TONIGHT thank you...and NO rude comments please wow, finally someone who feels my pain! im 39 weeks and just got off antibiotics for an abcessed tooth as weel. yes man the penicillin did give u the itch. it always does. most over the counters are safe at this point. monistat, and im pretty sure they say the safest one is the gyna lotrimin. call your doc or even call the hospital and ask a nurse if you cant get ahold of your doc. best of luck chick! Yes, it can. Unfortunately, antibiotics kill the good bacteria that fight the bad bacteria too and so a yeast infection after taking them is common. You can get monistat at any grocery store or wal-mart or pharmacy. Talk to the pharmacist if you have any questions about it. Buy some yogurt too - it will help build up the good bacteria in your body again. Some antibiotics kill the bad bacteria (abscessed tooth) as well as the good bacteria (such as the bacteria needed to keep everything in balance, such as the yeast) that is why there is an overgrowth of yeast cells after antibiotic use. Call your doctor to see if there is an over the counter yeast medicine that is safe to use while pregnant. Yes, antibiotics can cause yeast infections, and the fact that u are pregnant makes it even more possible. Its probably thrush its gave me it a couple of times (its awful) when i took penicillen due to a kidney infection, go to your chemist they will recommend something for you since your pregnant. Think theres something called canisten one is a cream or you can take it orally :D i have a yeast infection right now and i started using baby wipes with alovera in it and it dosint itch very much any more. plus they are not all dry like regular toilet paper so that helps with the itch. just use them whenever u have to pee and try to keep it very clean down there eat yogurt that will help. the dr can give you a cream for yeast infection too. it might be thrush .. get yourself some cream from the chemist |
