It may be. If the yeast infection was neglected for a while, it could spread and damage other nearby areas. Remember anything left untreated affects the body in so many ways.
ASK HIM IF HES RIGHT HES THE DOCTOR!!!!!
If you dont trust your doctors word than the best thing to do is seek out a 2nd opinion from another doctor.

I wouldn't rely on the advice of the people here though.
