Over the Counter yeast infection treatments?

Is it safe to use otc yeast infection treatments while pregnant? Been calling the doctor for 2 days with no reply. Left several messages.

OK...no one is actually answering your question, so I will. Yes, Monistat or its generic equivalent is safe to use in pregnancy. Don't insert the applicator too deeply. Skip the home remedies, they're not going to cure an established yeast infection in a pregnant woman, and you don't want it to get worse. My doctor recommended using the five- or seven-day treatments rather than the three-day treatments, because yeast infections during pregnancy can be tougher to get rid of (which is why eating yogurt is not going to cure one...though it may help keep future ones away).Safe.

You just want to be 100% sure that what you have is a yeast infection, and not something else, like a UTI or some other vaginal infection, that could be dangerous if left untreated.
I might look for another doctor if I were you, too.

Maybe you should call your local pharmacist.

Also, you might see if there's a local nurse line in your area. Often they have nurses available to answer questions like that.
I think it is okay. You should consider consulting another doctor because it is important to communicate effectively with your doctor during pregnancy. When I would call my OBGYN I never spoke directly with the doctor, just a nurse. You should at least be able to do that. If it gets worse (or you just can't take it anymore) you could try an urgent care or the hospital emergency room if your insurance allows. They will treat you until you can see your doctor. Hope this helps!
Plain Yogurt...use it as you would regular yeast infection creme.
It depends on how many weeks you are. If you are in the first trimester (less than 12 weeks), you will be prescribed something that is safe for pregnancy (I was prescribed two things... something internal which I unfortunately can't remember the name of and Nystatin which is for external treatment). If you are in the second or third trimester, it is generally safe to take an OTC medication. Simply be careful using the applicator that you don't hit your cervix or blow air into the vagina (very rare, but they still warn you about this). If you can't get in touch with your doctor, I was also told by the nurse at my OB's office that I could use the OTC medication on external areas only and in small amounts until the doctor could get back to me. I know how uncomfortable you are feeling, but the good news is that yeast infections are no threat to the pregnancy. Good luck!
