So I want to start taking Yoga classes, but....?

I am a chubby girl, and that's one reason I want to take Yoga. Another is I believe it will help ease my anxiety.
My fear is that I will walk into a class of people with perfect bodies, and i'll look like an idiot trying to learn positions and stuff. What was your first experience with Yoga class like? Were the people stuck up or cool? Were they all super fit or were there some just working on it like I will be? I'm so nervous. I'm just looking for someone to share their first time stories. And did yoga help you lose weight and tone up? Did it help your mind?

I can understand how you'd be nervous...believe me though, not everyone there has a perfect body!

The first yoga class I took, which was a beginner class, had all sizes of people, and both women and men were there. Since yoga also incorporates meditation, you probably won't talk to anyone at all. There are usually some giggles ocassionally when the moves get really difficult and people feel awkward and are tipping over, but you won't be faced with rude stares, etc. Everyone is there to get in better shape and improve their muscle tone and flexibility. I definitely was in horrible shape before yoga, and was not the only one! There were some people who had taken yoga classes before, but even they didn't have these spectacular bodies...plus it's really hard to look at everyone if you are concentrating on holding positions.

Don't be nervous! I was, and it was silly since nobody cared what I looked like, what I wore, or how well I could carry out all the positions and stretches. What matters is how YOU feel about yourself. If you get the right instructor you'll love yoga and how it makes you feel.

I was sore almost every day for the first few weeks, but after time I did get used to it. It's surprisingly difficult and although I'm not super overweight I did lose some weight, particularly right at first. I felt at peace every day after yoga and now when I do yoga I can concentrate on other things much more easily afterwards.

Look for a beginner class. I did. No one had a perfect body and we all learnt the poses together. Yoga helps me to stay flexible and gives me a sense of peace. The proper breathing and meditation are very calming.
