Not losing weight even with 2 hrs of cardio and 1 hr of yoga 6 days a week. eating less than 1000 calories too

i dont know what to do anymore. im 5'4 and 150 lbs. i have a small frame. and my bmi is 25.7 (overweight category). i practically live IN the gym already (for the past month, 4 weeks already) and i still am not losing weight. i eat oatmeal w/ 1 tbsp. honey everyday (breakfast, luch, & dinner) my cardio everyday includes: elliptical machine (where i dont let the speed go below 120, and keep my heart rate at 140) and after, i walk on the treadmill at 5mph for another hour. after that, i attend a yoga class (basic stretching and sun salutations and balance poses). i used to weigh 125, but when i started working overtime a lot, i stopped going to the gym and gained 25 lbs. now i cant seem to get back to my old weight EVEN WHEN IM TRYING SO HARD. i had my thyroid tested already and my thyroid function test came back normal. should i just accept my weight and stop trying so hard? i want to quit already. nothings working.

You're over doing it.

First off, you're not giving yourself enough calories. Second, you're working out too much.

For the workout....The cardio is fine, the yoga is fine, both together is great. You're just doing too much. Believe it or not, there's a point where your body decides to say 'I'm done burning calories' and it stops. That's when workouts become uneffective and useless. Also, if you don't change your workouts, your body will plateau and will actually stop losing weight. Both are reasons why you're not losing anything.

You can workout 6 days a week and have it being effective, but it's also good to give your body a break too. Cut back on your cardio. Only do 1 hour of cardio a day. Since the yoga is low intensity, you can use that after your cardio to help you stretch and relax, but even then, I might cut that back to a few days a week, not every day. Or switch it up with a mat Pilates class if it's available (like yoga, works your core muscles more). Also, changing your cardio routine every few weeks will give your body a boost. Stuck on the elliptical? Try a bike or treadmill, or even the 'wave' machine if your gym has one. The wave machine mimics rollerblading. It's an awesome machine, and your legs will burn within a few minutes of use.

If you're not already doing it, add in weights to your workout. Weight training will help you burn calories faster, as well as build muscle.

For your diet, if all you're eating is 1000 calories a day in the form of nothing but oatmeal, your body is going into starvation mode. That is another reason your body will plateau. It's trying to survive. You're burning more calories than you're taking in, and your body is trying to hold on to the calories so it can survive. You're hurting yourself more than you're helping.

Try eating 4-6 small meals each day, spread out over about 3 hours in between each meal. Include a lean meat or eggs (protein), fruit and/or veges, and a grain for carbs with each meal. The protein will help balance everything out, as well as stabilize your blood sugar. If you can't handle eating every few hours, a protein drink such as Boost or Slim Fast will help. By adding more calories to your diet (sounds opposite for a diet), you will give your body something to lose.

These little changes will work huge wonders on your diet. I bet you'll also see a rapid weight loss of several pounds within a few days if you change your diet and workout routine.

If your gym has personal trainers, talk to them. Most of the time, you can get help without having to pay for it. If you can afford it, I recommend paying for one, and working with them once a month for a few months, until you start seeing results, then you can cut back on your trainer visits. Good luck!!

First, cut out the cardio.
Second, up your calories to 1300 a day.
Third, Lift weights 3-5 times a day, no more than 1 hour a day.
Fourth, do interval training. Pretty much, warm up with walking for 5 minutes. Then do an interval of 30 second sprint and 1 minute waling. Do five of those intervals, and then walk for five minutes to cool down.

seriously eat i did the same thing and wasn't loosing anything then got discouraged and was going to quit and just ate for a bit not too much i wasn't used to it anymore and i was still worried about it but when i started eating i started slimming down

try it

You're probably burning fat and building muscle. Muscle takes up less space than fat, but weighs much more. That's what it sounds like to me.

cuz you are not eating enough!!! your body is saving fat since you are working it so hard and not giving it enough to burn. eat 2000 calories a day ok just not junk food!

Calculate your BMR. They have an article about it at about.com it has a formula to figure it out. If you eat to few calories you are going to double your weight gain. It is really important to eat the right amount of calories for you height weight and activity level. Oh and you need a full Thyroid test. You probably had the small one that tends to over look thyroid problems. I don't think its your thyroid I think its you calorie intake.

You need to eat more. You can NOT lose weight if you are eating LESS than 1000 calories a day ... your body is in 'starvation mode' and you can't lose weight no matter how hard you exercise. Cut your exercise back to 1/2 hour of cardio and 1 hour of yoga and eat AT LEAST 1500 calories a day, up to 1700 calories. Also start walking for half an hour every day and hold your stomach in while you do ... and you need to eat some protein and some vegies and fruit, not just carbohydrates ...

your overtraining and not eating enough! you have put your body in survival mode. The best diet is to eat 3 good meals with supplements in between. thats 5 - 6 meals a day. Don't worry about counting calories. Just K.I.S.S. Keep It Simple Stupid. Just visually keep your proportions to 60% protein. 30% carbs. 10% fat. The carbs are the key. Stay with a low G.I. Glycimic Index. Just google it. GI Scale. GI 50/50 is a good sight to start at. As for your 2 -3 meal replacements. Either a high protein low carb mix or 500mg of BCAA's. Also a good multivitamin. On the weekends reward yourself by eating whatever you want. During the week also make sure to keep your sugar and simple carbs to a minumum. It will take at least 2 weeks before you start to see results. you gotta get your body out of survival mode. good luck

Okay are you losing INCHES? thats' the first thing to look at. Are your clothes looser on you?
Also, BMI doesnt mean diddly if you have a high muscle/low fat ratio. Several very hunky movie stars have a BMI that puts them in the overweight category, and they are definitely NOT overweight.
So start taking some measurements of your waist, thigh, arms, and neck. Measure weekly.

But I think it's more than that. You are NOT getting enough calories. Too few calories, and your body goes into starvation mode and your metabolism slows. You also need variety in your diet, as you are not getting the nutrients your body needs by eating only one type of food.
What you have to do is find the perfect calore intake for YOU. One way you can do that is to go to http://www.sparkpeople.com and plug in your information. It won't let you select anything over losing 2 lbs a week as that is not healthy, so set a realistic date. Then it will suggest how many calories you need to eat per day to achieve your goal. Try to hit about the middle, but don't be bummed if you have one or two high days a week, as long as you manage to balance it out with a couple of low days a week (staying WITHIN the suggested calorie range). I guarantee you will find the perfect number where the pounds just start melting off, about 2 per week. I did it myself, took a few weeks to get it figured out, but once I hit it, it was so easy to keep going while tracking what I ate and being honest with myself (drink plenty of water! at least 8 eight ounce cups a day!). It will also suggest a menu for you to follow, and will even give you a printable grocery list. You don't have to follow the suggestions, you can enter your own choices into the menu planner and it will tell you if you are getting enough protein, fats, carbs, etc. You can even have it track nutrients for you (vitamins).

I agree with the above poster, it sounds like you are doing too much, and it is vital you switch up your exercises.

Good luck!
