Why does my face turn 10 shades of red when I go to a Bikram yoga class?

I did my first class the day before yesterday, and I felt wonderful afterwards, so I want to go again. I'm trying to lose some weight before I get pregnant, and pain from an old ankle injury (five screws and a leg plate) prevents me from doing most land cardio, even the elliptical. The only other thing I can do is swim, so that's why I like Bikram yoga. I can't burn 600 calories doing anything else due to my injury.

What I don't understand is why I turn so 10 shades of red when everyone else is only 2 or 3? Does this go away with time? I really want to do it again, but if I'm reacting badly then I don't want to do it.

PS: I'm trying to get pregnant, so I don't want anything to hurt my chances of conception either.

Please only answer if you have true knowledge about Bikram (hot ) yoga...no offense, but I'm not looking for everyone's two cents here. Thanks in advance!

I am 5'4", 140 pounds, non-smoker, so not extremely overweight, I just want to lose about 15 pounds. Thanks for the input!

Before you disregard someone that isn't familiar with the type of yoga maybe you should give the person a chance. Here's my 2 cents....

You could have a few things going on. If you are overweight or out of shape this would have a major effect. Most people that are out of shape or overweight tend to turn red when doing even a little bit of exercise since the body works harder than other people. Also, you may be more sensitive to the heat (I'm assuming there's added heat since it's called "hot yoga"). I suggest keeping hydrated. If you have any other symptoms like shortness of breath, dizziness, fatigue, weakness, etc you should stop and see your doctor.

actually, I like Tinyme's answer :) I agree with everything she said. It's actually what I was thinking myself.
You might also ask your yoga instructor, who may have more knowledge than anyone who answers here.
good luck!
