Sixteen and yoga?

I'm sixteen and I'm thinking of joining a yoga class. I was wondering if you need to be flexible in order to join yoga because I'm really not flexible and I don't want to embarrass myself..
Also I got in a car accident a few months back and I hurt my back, so I was also wondering if yoga would help.

Okay, I think I will give it a try. I'll sign up for classes soon. Thanks everyone for your help!

Remember that before starting any exercise regimen you should talk to your doctor. She/he can better determine whether yoga will help you or hurt you even more.

You don't have to be flexible to take yoga as long as you start in a beginners class. Don't go straight into an advanced class.

Do it! I regular attend a Pilates class. There is nothing better for you than these types of exercises. You don't need to flexible, yoga helps you develope that. Yoga and pilates and static exercises similar to these help you become concious of your movements and kinetic chain.

You'll learn to breath more efficiently, which will give you a greater sense of well being, and carry more oxygen and nutrients throughout your body. This promotes good health and a strong immune system.

Also, it'll correct muscle imbalance that you have inevtiably incurred via your back injury. This will make you use your body as ergonomically as possible. This is important, as it'll ease tension throughout your body, and stablize joints, which will prevent pain, stress and arthritis.

Honestly, it'll be the best decision you've ever made. Unless you managed to break a cocaine addiction :)

First off, no problem joining a yoga class at 16. I started a year before that. Secondly, you don't need to be flexible to join yoga. That's a skill you can acquire through your classes.

Also, yes, yoga will help ease your back pains. I feel flexible all over thanks to doing it myself for a few years and I used to have neck pains, don't anymore. Good luck and enjoy, it's really relaxing!

you dont hav 2 b flexible to join yoga cuz yoga helps u 2 bcome flexible, girl
thats how i started to beginner yoga
and bout ur back its best u discuss it wiv ur doctor
yoga.org.nz says
"The practice of yoga can make your body more flexible, giving your muscles and your joints a greater range of motion."

Yoga is a wonderful thing to do! Don't worry about your flexibility, you can expect to see people at and below your level, and it will improve with time.

yoga makes you feel really good, and 16 is definitely ok, even kids do it!

good luck with your recovery :)
