If you do muscle building&yoga. Would one jeopardize the other's outcome in the end?

I'm going to be taking Physical Cond.[weight lifting] &Yoga.
My question is..In the end of all the workouts, could on jeopardize the other's outcome?

No. Weight lifting and yoga are complimentary practices. Neither will jeopardize the beneficial effects of the other.

Weight lifting should not be practiced without some form of stretching/flexibility training because weight lifting alone will decrease one's flexibility. Many yoga poses are great options for providing this necessary balance to the weight lifting workout.

Yoga, on the other hand, can provide a more balanced workout and can be safely practiced without weight lifting or other strength training exercises. It can be safely practiced in conjunction with a weight lifting practice as well -- provided that you remember that yoga isn't just stretching. Yoga is itself a strength training workout.

Your body needs time to recover after any type of physical conditioning. The general rule of thumb for weight lifting is to allow at least 48 hours between workouts.

Because yoga is a gentler practice which works only with your own body weight, it is generally considered safe to engage in some form of yoga practice every day; however, you will need to back off from the strength training aspects of yoga if you do a workout when you are in your recovery period after a weight training workout. (For example, if you are resting your upper body today because yesterday you did an intensive workout of bicep curls and bench presses, you will want to go light on the plank pose - http://www.flickr.com/photos/rainbowdrag... - and crocodile pose - http://www.flickr.com/photos/rainbowdrag... - in today's yoga session.)

It is always a good idea to consult with your physician prior to commencing any physical exercise regime. Additionally, if you are going to be practicing weight lifting and yoga with different trainers, you need to let each trainer know about the work you are doing with the other trainer.

I agree more or less with stephers, specifically, follow your weight routine with yoga.

The repetitive lifting of weights tends to contract and shorten muscle fibers.
In addition to develping the muscle, this also over time contributes to some loss of range of movement (because the muscle literally becomes tighter, less flexible).

The stretching aspects of yoga will counteract that tendency,
literally lengthening the muscle and improving range of movement.

This also addresses concern some women have that lifting weights will give them bulky muscles like men (which I feel is basically unfounded since most women would have to work exceptionally hard to bulk up, due to naturally much lower testosterone level).

A guy whose intention for doing weights was to 'get huge' would likley avoid yoga.

No, but you should do the yoga after the weight lifting and always take a break of 48 hours between weight training exercises. Yoga stretches out the muscles and weight lifting tightens and strengthens them. Weight lifting will undo the yoga but the yoga won't undo the weight lifting.

no. if anything the yoga will help w/the weight training as you won't experience the decrease in flexibility that often accompanies increased muscle tone
