Yoga and weightlifting?

Ive been weightlifting for a while now and im curious... If i added in yoga a few times a week, would my muscle growth increase?

In my experience, no.

Let me be clear: I am NOT saying that yoga will not develop muscle.
It will, especially if you frequently practice the asanas (poses) that emphasize/require strength (not all the poses do).

On other hand, if you frequently practice the asanas that emphasize stretching, the stretching will help counteract the muscle-fiber shortening tendency (which is what contributes to bulk) that results from repeated lifting (at least in men).

Any kind of stretching will do this, not just yoga.

Since most guys lift with the goal of getting maximum bulk, it's pretty rare to find a guy doing strength training that values maintaining flexibility & range of motion at the price of sacrificing some bulk by regular, focused stretching.

My own routine is 50 mins in the weight-room three days a week, followed by 30 mins cardio.
(technically, it would probably be better to do the cardio first, but that's another topic).
On average I do an hour of yoga five days a week (occasionally, seven days a week, when time permits).

I do weights not to bulk up, but rather to supplement my yoga, and assist in the poses that require strength (arm balances and etc).

Absolutely, stretching program (especially Yoga) with concurrent weight training is probably the best thing you can do for your body. to be 'in shape'.

Just dont forget to do movement exercise like run bike whatever gets you breathing hard and your blood pumping.

Yoga would definitely increase flexibility, which is fundamental in weight training. A lot of poses also constitute as isometric training, which by itself will develop muscle.

You'll increase your flexibility and focus!

It's a nice way to combine yoga with weightlifting.

Peace

not really..but it helps ur body become more flexible... which is good..it prevents ur body from getting hurt.. or "bone out of place"

thats good that youre doing something for flexibility, cause strength without a full range of motion is impotent
