How many of you benefited from Yoga?

Why don't people realize that it has nothing to do with Hinduism?

Can u relate both KOJAK?

I love yoga! I pray to the Christian God and Jesus while I practice.

And I agree with you.

^_^ Have a great weekend!

I have practiced yoga for years, and have benefitted greatly healthwise, and I am not a follower of Hinduism.

I wish I knew the answer to your second question. For the same reason, I guess, that people don't realize that the Big Bang has nothing to do with evolution. They don't really want answers, they just want to express their doubts and fears in question form because it makes them sound open-minded when they are not.

Edited to add: No, you really don't have to follow any particular religion or lifestyle or system of thought to get many of the benefits which yoga offers. Try it and see.

who said it got nothing to do with HINDUISM - perhaps you should rephrase your question on elaborating what type of yoga you were telling. maybe HATTA or so and so..

edit-----

Major branches of a yoga include Raja Yoga, Karma Yoga, Jnana Yoga, Bhakti Yoga, and Hatha Yoga. Raja Yoga, compiled in the Yoga Sutras of Patanjali, and known simply as yoga in the context of Hindu philosophy, is part of the Samkhya tradition. Many other Hindu texts discuss aspects of yoga, including the Vedas, Upanishads, the Bhagavad Gita, the Hatha Yoga Pradipika, the Shiva Samhita and various Tantras.

I have been to many countries - where dyana and hatta focusing on god head , or sometimes brahma or sometimes self reailization on certain mantra chanting.

Traditional Hatha Yoga is a holistic yogic path, including moral disciplines, physical exercises (e.g., asanas and pranayama), and meditation.

I've definitely benefitted from yoga!! When I first started years ago I was amazed at the difference - never had sciatica again, headaches? gone! Immune system? Fantastic! Energy? Heaps! I don't know what Junos is talking about - I studied yoga in India for quite a while and never saw people doing yoga as a homage to the Hindu gods - not that it couldn't be incorporated into religious practice. There's degrees of yoga just as there is degrees of anything else. I think if yoga was taught more globally our healthcare systems wouldn't know what to do with themselves.

Practicing yoga has helped me a lot. It's decreased my back pain, increased my flexibility so that I am less likely to get hurt when I'm active, and I use the breathing techniques I learned to help me get through other strenuous activity and to relieve stress anytime I need to.

Yoga is related to breathing, exercise, and meditation (for some). Some people just jump to conclusions without doing research.
But then again "junos" sort of knows what he's talking about. There are a lot of poses named for hindu gods. That doesn't mean all people who are hindu have to do yoga, but I believe that is the origin. (correct me if I'm wrong)

Millions of people practice Yoga for the mental and physical benefits with no regard for the spiritual aspects of the discipline. Meditation is a secular practice too.

I dislike yoga.

Well, current American yoga has nothing to do with Hinduism, but I'm sure you realize it was originally a religious, meditative practice.

I understand yoga as an exercise aimed at perfecting something. I used to swim backstroke, trying to keep straight, making my hands enter and exit the water without splashing but maintain a good speed.

My mother does it and she says she feel better , fresh and active all time. I never tried it, I am much more into intense workouts into gym . But yeah whoever does it , it benefits them.

I believe yoga is very calming and relaxing and help one become more flexible. I don't view it as any type of religion.

yoga is related to india.

Apparently you don't know anything about Yoga then.

We are bombarded by messages of yoga鈥檚 peaceful and healthful benefits, but what we don鈥檛 hear, specifically in the United States, is the true origins of this type of lifestyle.

鈥淭hese are postures that are offered to the 330 million Hindu gods. Yoga postures really are; offerings to the gods. If you do these postures and you do this breathing technique and this meditation, then you will be accepted by a god, little 鈥淕.鈥?That鈥檚 the real danger,鈥?she said.

鈥淩omans 12:1-2 says we are to offer our bodies as a living sacrifice to God,鈥? 鈥淗ere they are doing something very similar with these postures to their 330 million gods, and it is scary. So we abstain from things offered to idols鈥擜cts 15:29.鈥?br>
This is a great one, 鈥淐hristian yoga", LOL 鈥淐hristian yoga is an oxymoron,鈥?鈥淚t is like saying someone is a Christian Buddhist or a Christian Hindu. What some people are doing is that they are trying to make yoga Christian. Even Hindus are saying that you cannot do that.鈥?br>
You can often see people in India doing the yoga positions in front of Idols. You can keep your yoga. Not falling for that one.

Just My Thoughts!
