Is at home yoga worth doing, if you have no previous experience?

I am fourteen, and in decent shape. I want to work on becoming healthier, and I heard yoga is a great way to do so. I have never done yoga before and aren't the most flexible person ever. I do, however, have strong calves and thighs. Is this worth trying, or would I be waiting time and money? (I'd be learning from a DVD).

No, I'm not trying to loose weight, you misunderstood. I love my body size (:

I simply want to be more flexible and strengthen my muscles for horseback riding, and I heard yoga is an effective way of doing it.

I also do yoga at home and I love it. It's really helped my flexibility and balance.

My favorite DVD's are the ones with Rainbeau Mars. I was a total yoga beginner and she explained everything well and was easy to follow.

Katie K -- yeah, it is good to do at home. I just started myself (at age 41). You can of get started by getting some videos at Target or watch the Fitness Channel to get the hang of it. Once you are in the groove, you can sign up for free online classes, like someone else suggested. The site I am currently using and find to be agreeable is the link below. The lessons were by an expert in the science of yoga; I am using the yoga positions for beginners but they do have more advanced versions as well. This site will teach you about the health benefits of yoga has plus a little about it's history.

enjoy
