Is there a certain yoga class out there that focuses on your back?


I have such horrible back pain and I can feel my back getting worse and worse - the NHS are so unhelpful (is a nice word). I need to fix my back problem asap!

A good, regular yoga practice will go far in relieving the stress and tension that sometimes cause mild back pain, and in fact, studies have shown that yoga is the number one most effective exercise for relieving back pain. However, not all yoga poses relieve back pain, and some can in fact aggravate existing pain, so it is important to know which poses will be most helpful in relieving back pain.

f your pain is being caused by muscles that are too tight, you will need to stretch them out to get pain relief.

If you go to a yoga class that concentrates on strengthening and toning, this type of back pain would get worse, as you would be tightening the muscles even more and therefore increasing the problem.
The reverse is true also: if your back pain is being caused by muscles that are weak and you go to a class that focuses on stretching, you will only make the back more flexible and weak. The result again would be more pain.
The key to success is to attend a class that has a good balance between stretching and strengthening, ensuring that your back is kept flexible yet strong.
