What is the best way to incorporate yoga, cardio, and strength training into my work-out? |
Which of the three is better to do first?...second?...last? Usually I take yoga at 8AM, so it comes first by default. But today I'm taking yoga at 11, so I would have time to do my cardio and weight training before. Which would be more beneficial (and why)? Personally I would do weights, cardio then yoga. The great thing about yoga is that it really doesn't matter when you do it, you can even do short routines every day (unlike cardio and weights). But that is alot of exercise - I'm wondering if it isn't too much. It may leave you drained before too long. Yoga would be good to do first, because it stretches the muscles. I dont think it would really matter if u lift or do cardio first or second. But if u run first, u may be to tired to lift. Also doing yoga at night may be a good cool down (5min) so my suggestion yoga lift cardio This is my weekly schedule, it works well for me- Mon.Cardio(step aerobics) Tues.Strength training Wed.Cardio(kickboxing) Thurs.Strength training Fri.Cardio/pilates-40 min.kickboxing/20min.pilates Saturday.Yoga Sunday Relax I would do the cardio first, then the weights then yoga at the end to relax and get a good stretch being a physical therapist who also assists our pulmonary and respiratory therapist, you are correct that yoga can be done first if you can. it will help prepare the mind and body for the physical aspect of your work-out. in our clinic we always have the patient do cardio and stretches first to lengthen the muscles after having been sitting or stressed during the day or night before. most do a 30 minute cardio and 15 min. stretches. then the strengthening . if you use weights, do the ex. in a rhytme, with proper breathing techs. and not at a fast pace. follow up with a short yoga or tai chi program to cool down. it would be beneficial to discuss this a sports trainer or physical therapist you know. good luck. hairbear |
