I would like to get started in Yoga in suggestion on how to start? Look for classes in your area. (Check out health clubs or noticeboards in health food stores or other 'alternative' shops, any 'alternative' newspapers, etc. And don't forget the yellow pages.) Ask the instructor about her approach. Many will let you join a class or two before you commit to a full course. It's really good to have the feedback of an instructor when you're first starting out. They can spot your mistakes and habits and get you going in the right direction. If you can't find a class in your area, see if the library has any yoga DVDs or videotapes. You won't get the instructor's feedback, but many people find that it is easier to learn from a DVD than a book or website. Find a class in your area and take one. Going to a class is the best way to get started in Yoga. They can show you the poses and work through a few routines with you and give you an idea of how long to hold a pose and how to breathe properly. Yoga is wonderful it helps maintain flexability. I have been doing Yoga for years. Take a class ... instructors are everywhere and many offer classes at YWCA's or community centers. The best videos for beginners are: Lilia's Flowing Postures. Amazon.com sells them. It is a set of 4 that breaks you in gently, but completely and with a good education. I no longer practice.. you should have caught me a year ago... I GAVE everything away. |
